Route Summary:

Kaziranga National Park (Extra 3 days/2 nights)

Nameri National Park, situated at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas adjacent to Pakke Tiger Reserve. It is the abode of many rare bird varieties, and the most reliable place to see the White-winged Duck, the state bird of Assam. Because of the Himalayan foothills many rare species come down in winter. Apart from the birds are the Asian Elephant, Indian Gaur, Sambar, Indian Muntjak, Malayan Giant Squirrel, Capped Languretc. The river Jia Bhoreli, adjoining the Nameri Park, is also famous for the Golden Mahseer fish.

Nest Wildlife Sanctuary (EWS), nestled in the Dafla Hills of the eastern Himalayas, ranges from 500 m to 3500 m altitude with an area of 218 sq. km. Named after the Kameng river which drains the basin of Gori Chen and Kangto peaks, this region is spread below the Himalayan watershed on the borders with Tibet in the North and Bhutan in the West. Eaglenest and adjoining areas (Sessa Orchid and Pakhui Sanctuary) are among the last large tracts of contiguous wilderness in India and part of the East Himalayan Bird Area. This park has a wonderful bird varieties with newly discovered Bugun Liocichla. On the other hand, iIt’s the home of rare Red Panda too. Two species of Tragopans, many varieties of Laughing thrushes and babblers made it a very popular birding destination. Also seen are Clouded Leopard, Leopard Cat, Marbled Cat, Himalayan sheraw, Goral, Yellow throated Marten, Asian Elephant and Indian Gaur too.

Itinerary

Day 01: Guwahati-Nameri (Surface 4 & 1/2 Hrs Approx)

Fly from Delhi/ Kolkata to Guwahati. Transfer to Nameri Eco Camp. Subject to adequate daylight, a short birding walk to the bank of River Jia- Bhoreli. Overnight at Nameri Eco camp.

Day 02: Explore Nameri National Park

Early morning drive to Nameri to trek in the forest with packed breakfast to look for illusive and threatened White winged Duck, Nameri is the best place to watch this bird.

We cross the Jia Bhoreli by boat and walk along the sand bank of the river for a kilometer to reach the Nameri National Park. A forest trek of about 2 and half Kilometre and we reach the pond of White Winged Duck. There is also the opportunity to see Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, White-cheeked Prtridge, Pied Falconet, Greater Goldenback, Sultan Tit, Long tailed and Silver breasted Broadbill etc. Some mammals as well in the park likely to see in the park are Asian Elephant ,Indian Gaur, Capped Langur, Royal Bengal Tiger, Hog Deer, Indian Muntjak, Malayan Giant Squirrel etc. Return to the lodge by lunch time

Afternoon, we will go for a rafting trip, where our target will be the beautiful and Spectacular wader Ibisbill. Other birds we might see are Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Great Thicknee, Indian Stone Curlew, Small Pratincole, Sand Lark , Wreathed Hornbill etc. Overnight at Nameri Eco camp. Day 03: Nameri-Lama Camp (3 and 1/2 Hrs Approx) 2350 MSL

Check out from the lodge early morning and drive from Nameri to cross into Arunachal State in Bhalukpong. A 40 minute drive through the bamboo covered forest reveals some bamboo specialties like Indian White hooded Babbler, Pale-headed Woodpecker, Collared Treepie, Red-billed scimitar babbler, White browed scimitar- babbler , Coral billed scimitar babbler ,Striated Yuhina , Little Forktail, Yellow- rumped Honey guide,
Bhutan Laughingthrush etc.

We will have lunch on the way and drive to Eaglenest WLS with some birding stopsAfter lunch we’ll stop in some gullies in search of recently discovered Bugun Liocichla and other spectacular Babblers. Overnight in fully serviced camp in Lama camp.

Day 04: Lama Camp-Bompu Camp (3 Hrs Approx) 1900 MSL

Early morning drive down to look for Bugun Liocichla , Greater Rufous-headed Parrotbill, Streak-breasted scimitar babbler, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Scarlet Finch, Speckled Wood Pigeon, R ufous throated Wren-babbler, Ward’s Trogon etc.
We’ll have picnic breakfast in the field and spend the whole morning searching for the Laughing thrushes and babblers. Come back to the camp for lunch. After Lunch drive towards Bompu Camp. Overnight in Fully serviced Tent in Bompu camp.

Day 05, 06 & 07: Bompu-Sessnei (1 & 1/2 Hrs Approx) 1900-1400 MSL

For next three days we’ll explore Bompu area, drive beyond Sessnei and back to the camp. Targets will be Blyth’s Tragopan, Beautiful Nuthatch, Sikkim Wedge-billed Babbler, Long-billed Wren babbler, Eye-browed Wren babbler, White-gorgetted Flycatcher and Laughingthrushes, Pale headed Woodpecker , Greater and Lesser Rufous-headed Parrotbill, Indian White-hooded Babbler,Large-Blue Flycatcher, Hodgson’s Frogmouth back to camp by evening. Overnight at Bompu camp.

Day 08: Bompu-Lama Camp

After Breakfast checkout. On the way back we’ll be looking for Ward’s Trogon, Black-throated Parrotbill, Blue-fronted Blue-Robin, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Purple Cochoa , Green Cochoa etc.
We’ll bird and drive on the way and reach our lodge by late afternoon.
Overnight at Nameri Eco Camp.

Dag 07: Kaziranga national park

Dag 08: Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

Kørsel tidligt om morgenen til Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary (25 km)

Vandretur inde i reservatet

Frokostpakke. Retur til Jorhat. Besøg Tocklai Tea Research Station, verdens ældste.

Middag og overnatning i Jorhat

Morgenrunde golf (valgfrit) i stedet for Gibbon Park

Day 09: Lama Camp-Nameri (3 Hrs 45 Min Approx)

After Breakfast checkout. On the way back we’ll be looking for Ward’s Trogon, Black-throated Parrotbill, Blue-fronted Blue-Robin, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Purple Cochoa , Green Cochoa etc.
We’ll bird and drive on the way and reach our lodge by late afternoon.
Overnight at Nameri Eco Camp.

Day 10: Nameri-Guwahati Airport (4 Hrs Approx)

Early morning birding around the lodge. After breakfast drive to Guwahati airport to fly out. Enroute visit the Guwahati garbage dump to watch gathering of Greater Adjutants.

Entry formalities (Arunachal Pradesh):

Please note that all foreign nationals need Protected Area Permit (PAP) to visit Arunachal Pradesh. The Government stipulates the number of tourists to minimum 2 in a group to apply for PAP. The Govt. charges USD 50 per person for a 30 days permit. The following documents are required for the permit and we need at least 10-15 working days to process the same. After we receive these documents:

1) Photos /Scanned copy of valid passport and Visa.
2) Scanned copy passport size photographs.
3) Duly filled PAP application form (provided by us on confirmation of tour).
